Complementary Data Transmission Control Method for Large Spatio-Temporal Data Retention

Abstract(in English) Some IoT applications offer services that provide IoT data depending on locations and times, such as weather and traffic information. We defined such data that depends on where and when those data were generated as spatio-temporal data (STD). In order to achieve local production for local consumption of STD, we have proposed a STD retention system that promotes the utilization of STD by distributing them directly from the place where they are generated and retaining them there. However, when retaining large-size STD (LSTD) such as photos, the system cannot realize effective retention due to partial loss of packets constructing LSTD caused by channel collisions and other factors. In this paper, we propose an LSTD retention scheme using complementary data transmission control in which vehicles selectively complement packets constructing the LSTD each other. Simulation results show that the proposed method can reduce the number of packet transmissions by 40 % and the number of collisions by more than 70 % compared to our previous method.
