Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) An arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is a specialized vessel created by anastomosing arteriovenous vessels. Hemodialysis therapy is realized by extracorporeal circulation, where the AVF plays an important role as an access line for hemodialysis patients. In hemodialysis treatment, stenosis or occlusion in the AVF makes it difficult. Therefore, palpation and auscultation are usually carried out before and after the treatment. These methods are helpful for initial screening because of their simplicity and reliability; however, they can only provide a qualitative evaluation, which leads to blood flow information not being shared. Our previous study demonstrated the possibility of a non-contact method based on optical technology to quantify pulse waveforms in the AVF to address the existing disadvantages of auscultation. Based on the previously developed system, this paper investigated the possibility of palpation quantification. Specifically, we demonstrated the effectiveness of the non-contact method by comparing the thrill signals between the contact and non-contact methods. Based on the frequency spectrum of the thrill signals, the signal-to-noise power ratio (SNR) was evaluated for the palpation quantification.
