Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) While acoustic communication technology is becoming more advanced for underwater communication, it is desirable to establish wireless communication technology using radio waves to communicate with underwater IoT sensors. However, underwater, especially undersea, is highly conductive, and radio wave communication has been considered difficult. However, radio waves below the shortwave band can propagate from several to tens of meters in the low-frequency band. The speaker's group aims for broadband communication using frequency bands from several hundred kHz to several MHz to transmit HD video at 1 Mbps or higher over several tens of meters. Currently, the group is at the stage of conducting basic studies, but in a water tank experiment, we have succeeded in transmitting at 1 Mbps over a distance of 2 m. We are also working toward our ultimate goal of sending HD video over the sea. To achieve the final goal, we are also developing OFDM communication devices for undersea use, high-efficiency undersea antennas, multi-hop functions, MIMO, and the use of lateral waves as the fundamental technologies for undersea radio communication. This presentation will report the aim of the research and the status of these fundamental studies.
