[Poster Presentation] Energy-Efficient Over-the-Air Computation using Differential Data Transmission Control

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we focus on AirComp (Over-the-Air Computation) in WSNs (Wireless Sensor Networks), in which the sensor nodes transmit their signals simultaneously through the multiple access channel in such a way that the sink node can estimate the multivariable function value of sensor data based on the received, superposed signal. By this method, the sink can estimate the function value with small delay regardless of the number of nodes in the network, which enables us to realize applications requiring massive and low-latency aggregation. However, in the conventional AirComp, each sensor node transmits its data every time the sink attempts to obtain the function value, which results in high power consumption of the overall network. Therefore, this article proposes differential AirComp, in which each sensor node first calculates the difference from the previously transmitted data, and only sensor nodes detecting larger difference than a threshold transmit their difference data, thereby realizing the power saving of WSNs. In this article, we evaluate the basic performance of differential AirComp. Furthermore, we introduce a method to estimate the combination of transmission nodes by using the theory of the discrete vector reconstruction, and discuss its impact on the estimation error achieved by differential AirComp.
