Successive Interference Cancellation Among Multiple LPWA Systems Based on Cooperation Between Multiple GWs

Abstract(in English) Nowadays, the number of low power wide area (LPWA) nodes that can communicate over long distances with low power has been increasing rapidly. Additionally, to utilize LPWA in various use cases, various LPWA systems with different communication protocols have been developed. Because these systems utilize the same unlicensed Sub-GHz bands, intra-system and inter-system interferences may frequently cause at gateways (GWs). Thus, we have proposed successive interference cancellation (SIC) among multiple LPWA systems at GWs with a modulator and demodulator for each system. In SIC, GW temporarily accumulates received and superposed signals and then (i) demodulates in each system, (ii) generates replica signals, and (iii) subtracts the replica signals from the accumulated signals, iteratively. Step (i) can be performed when the received power difference among the signals is enough. However, when the received power difference is less, GW cannot perform the demodulation and subtraction. Therefore, we propose SIC based on cooperation between multiple GWs. In this method, the GW succeeding to demodulate shares the demodulated binary data with the GW failing to demodulate, which assists the replica generation at the latter GW. Simulation results show that packet error rate can be suppressed drastically for the whole system compared to SIC at one GW without the cooperation between the GWs.
