Abstract(in English) Coherent technology has been widely used from long haul to metro network. InP is a material having unique characteristics for realizing high speed modulation, and we have developed high speed and small size InP-based dual-polarization In-phase and Quadrature modulator. Spot size converter (SSC) is key structure for reducing optical loss between modulator and optical lens. However, SSC with low optical loss needed 2nd epitaxial growth to integrate with modulator. We demonstrated SSC having two stories employing anisotropic etching process with 1.3 dB loss in 1.52~1.58 ?m wavelength.
