Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This study intends to investigate how mood states affect facial expression perception. The study examined how depression (anxiety), hostility, liveliness, and well-being moods contribute to the accuracy and reaction time of the perception of various facial expressions (neutral, 6 compound emotion, and 6 basic emotion categories with different intensities) as well as the tendencies for the misinterpretation of facial expressions in different mood states. As the result, mood has no significant effect on accuracy, but has a significant effect on reaction time. Regarding the propensity for misinterpretation, it has been observed that expressions are tend to be identified as disgust in negative mood states. Additionally, there is a greater propensity to misinterpret expressions as sadness in depression (anxiety) condition while as happiness and surprise in the state of liveliness.
