Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Humans and animals have the ability to estimate numerosity. There are three subprocesses in the numerosity perception process: subitizing, numerosity estimation, and counting. In this presentation, we focus on the numerosity estimation process among these subprocesses. Although most numerosity perception is conducted in three-dimensional space, most of the previous studies have presented the components in a two-dimensional plane. In recent years, several studies on numerosity (or density) presented in a three-dimensional space have been reported. In this presentation, we will introduce the previous studies on numerosity perception and the numerosity perception studies conducted by the authors in a three-dimensional space.
