| Abstract(in English) | It is well known that microsaccades and attention are closely related, but the relationship between microsaccade direction and attention direction remains unclear. Previous studies have suggested that there is no correlation between the direction of bottom-up attention and microsaccade direction. On the other hand, there are conflicting theories about top-down attention which suggest that there is a correlation between the direction of microsaccade and the direction of attention, and that there is no correlation between the them. The experimental conditions in these reports differ on whether or not sustained attention is required, suggesting that sustained attention is mandatory to generate a correlation between them. In this study, we analyzed the direction of microsaccades elicited by sustained attention during a target detection task in which sustained attention can be controlled. The results show no significant differences between microsaccades that coincide with attention direction and those in the opposite direction for both tasks, indicating no correlation between microsaccades direction and the direction of sustained attention. |
