Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | The impact of cyber-attacks on automobiles is becoming more serious as vehicles become more connected and multi-functional. The Controller Area Network (CAN) protocol, widely used in automobiles, has no mean to identify unauthorized CAN messages. Prior countermeasure technologies such as gateway filtering and message authentication have been proposed; however, they impact the existing functions in terms of delay time, processing requirements, and payload overhead. We propose Gated-CAN, a technology that identifies the physical transmission direction of CAN messages without causing large delays while maintaining CAN bus functionality in the absence of attacks and blocks the transmission of unauthorized CAN messages. We also report the demonstration results of the Gated-CAN physical transmission direction identification and maintaining CAN bus functionality with a delay as little as 38.1 ns. |
