Wide-area monitoring of EMF Exposure Levels from Mobile Phone Base Stations Using Car-mount Measurements

Abstract(in English) We have measured EMF exposure levels from mobile phone base stations, broadcasting stations and wireless LANs, which are the main sources of exposure in the general environment, at fixed points outdoors and indoors, respectively. In this paper, wide-area mobile measurements by an electric field measuring equipment mounted on a vehicle are reported. Measurements of repeated runs along the same route and a total of about 15,000 km within a radius of 100 km centred on the Tokyo Nihonbashi area were carried out. In the repeated measurements, the variation was less than 3 dB. It is found that comparison of the results of repeated measurements with the time-averaged results of previous fixed measurements shows that they show a similar trend to those of previous measurements. In wide-area measurements, the measurement results were averaged within the reference area mesh and a statistical distribution was calculated. Furthermore, the relationship with population density is discussed, and it is shown that the electric field strength of the mobile phone base stations is positively related to population density.
