A Study of Gaze-Responsive Active Patterns for Directional Guidance

Abstract(in English) As an AR-based direction guidance method for pedestrians, we propose a gaze-responsive active patterns that satisfies all four important elements: visibility, comprehensibility, safety, and ambient awareness. An active pattern is a set of virtual objects that flow along the direction of walking. When the virtual objects overlap with the user's line of sight, they are displayed off, making it easier for the user to check for safety. Active patterns with this function are called gaze-responsive active patterns. We conducted preliminary experiments using gaze-responsive active patterns in indoor and half-outdoor environments, and evaluated the four elements. We confirmed that the gaze-responsive active patterns are capable of ensuring safety and ambient awareness.
