Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Various methods have been proposed to promote the growth of shiitake mushrooms on bed logs, such as directly applying high voltage electrical stimulation. However, in many cases in the natural world, lighting hits a tree or a structure surrounding the growing area and not the bed logs themselves. Therefore, the authors saw the need to simulate lightning strikes as they occur in the natural world, and focused on the subsequent shock wave (sound pressure) generated . Bed Llogs were placed in an area away from the lightning strike point, and the effect of sound pressure on the growth of shiitake mushrooms was investigated. We were able to show that the sound-pressure stimulation during lightning strikes, and not the strikes themselves, led to an accelerated growth of fruiting bodies. Based on these results, we replicated the sound of a lightning strike using loudspeakers and studied the effect on fruiting body development at different levels of sound pressure. In this reportpresentation, we will summarize past experiments and the current project.
