A reference signal distribution system with analog phase shifter for suppressing phase fluctuations of transmission line

Abstract(in English) In a distributed phased array system, it is necessary to distribute a stable reference signal among multiple antenna modules for ensuring cooperation and synchronization. In this paper, we propose a reference signal distribution system with an analog phase shifter for suppressing the phase fluctuations occurring during transmission, caused by transmission line vibrations. The proposed system uses an analog phase shifter that can continuously vary the phase and has a phase control dynamic range sufficient to suppress the phase fluctuations. The proposed system detects phase fluctuations in the transmission line by using reflected signals from antenna modules, and cancels them by applying antiphase fluctuations to the reference signal using the analog phase shifter. We derived a calculation method for determining the suppression level with respect to the phase fluctuation frequencies, and this method was validated by the measurement results. The results also demonstrated the performance of the proposed system because it was able to achieve a phase fluctuation suppression level of 1/50 at a phase fluctuation frequency of 1 kHz.
