A Proposal of an Edge Computing Testbed with Flexible Setting of Network Latency

Abstract(in English) In experiments on edge computing applications, network latency is one of the important conditions. However, conventional testbed systems cannot provide experimental environments simultaneously satisfying network latency conditions desired by various experimenters. In this paper, we propose the edge computing testbed system that provides experimental environments with arbitrary network latencies as desired by multiple testbed users. To realize this feature, the system combines the Docker container management system and the network emulation function. We conducted experiments using a prototype of the proposed system and confirmed that the system can provide edge computing testbed environments with arbitrary network latency. Moreover, we evaluated communication between Docker containers and discussed an issue regarding the implementation.
