Temporal network analysis on usage history of bicycle sharing system

Abstract(in English) In recent years, usage history of bicycle sharing system (BSS) has been publicly available, and studies on analyzing the BSS data and predicting the demand of bicycles have been conducted. We have also addressed on efficient strategies for rebalancing bicycles using vehicles and on the analysis of usage history data as point processes. In this article, we report the analysis results of a undirected and weighted temporal network created from usage history of BSS data in Washington D.C. and New York, with the port where the bicycle was rented as the start node and the port where the bicycle was returned as the end node. In the analysis, we used spectral distance and classical multidimensional scaling methods. Numerical experiments show that BSS usage patterns on weekdays and weekends in Washington D.C. were characterized differently, while no difference between weekday and weekend bicycle usage patterns exist in New York BSS.
