Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) With the recent progress of IoT (Internet of Things), low power wide area networks (LPWANs) have been attracting considerable attention. In this technical report, we focus on LoRaWAN. In general, one important aspect of constructing an IoT network involves extending the battery life by reducing the power consumption of the sensor node, which is premised on battery operation. In the conventional energy consumption modeling for LoRaWAN, indoor experimental values and data sheet values of individual chips are used as the current consumption value or processing time in each state of the node. In this regard, the battery life of the outdoor LoRaWAN node (end device) assuming realistic IoT has not been fully clarified. Therefore, in this technical report, we propose a scheme to model the energy consumption of LoRaWAN nodes via the results of outdoor field experiments assuming regional smart agriculture as a use case of IoT. Moreover, we derived an experimental approximation formula to estimate the battery life by introducing parameters such as spread factor and payload length for a specific board. The numerical evaluation clarifies the effects of various parameters on the battery life and energy efficiency of the node.
