Abstract(in English) | This paper aims to expand the communication area in visible light communication (VLC) using a rolling shutter camera as a receiver. We call this type of VLC as rolling shutter based VLC. There is a trade-off between data rate and communication area that is one of the issues in rolling shutter based VLC. To improve this issue, we propose a superimposed iterative transmission in which two signals, one for short range and the other for long range, are prepared and superimposed for transmission. The short range data is transmitted in long bit streams with a small number of iterations, while long range data is transmitted in short bit streams with a large number of iterations. By superimposing and transmitting these two sets of data with different amplitudes, the two sets of data can be decoded separately at the receiver. Therefore, at short ranges, the data rate can be improved because both short-range and long-range data can be decoded, while at long ranges, although data rate becomes lower, data transmission can be achieved by decoding only the long-range data. In this paper, we conducted indoor communication experiments using the proposed method and compared its throughput with that of the conventional method. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves approximately four times the throughput of the conventional method at short distances (30 cm) while maintaining the throughput of the conventional method at long distances (up to 100 cm). |
