Abstract(in English) | This paper describes the influence of drivers’ reaction delays on safety performances of alert-type driver assistance systems based on sensors/V2V communications. We evaluate safety performances of the systems by quantifying their accidents reduction effects under various traffic volume situations by using the microscopic traffic flow simulator that can evaluate road safety at the evaluation region in a street with three signalized intersections. The results show that there are significant property differences between the models with/without drivers’ reaction delays. The model with drivers’ reaction delays makes the accidents reduction effects the worst when the traffic volume decreases slightly from the saturated traffic flow. In contrast, the model without drivers’ reaction delays makes them worse with the increase of traffic volume. The results also suggest that it is important to consider the traffic volume when designing alert-type driver assistance systems. |
