Abstract(in English) Recently, a cloud-based railroad signaling system, in which field devices are controlled via a wireless network from a central device at a remote location where computational resources are centralized, has been put into practical use in Europe. Conventional railroad signaling systems have been implemented using a synchronous round model based on fixed-cycle processing by a fail-safe computer to ensure safety. However, such systems require high costs to guarantee performance and transmission quality. In order to realize a cloud-based railroad signaling system with high availability and low cost, a method that multiplexes the central equipment in a COTS (Commercial-Off-The-Shelf) manner and introduces temporal redundancy in the control processing has been proposed. In this study, we focus on the fault tolerance of this method and evaluate its reliability quantitatively by simulation.
