Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Integration of auditory and vocal-motor information is essential for songbirds to learn a song. Neurons in the premotor nucleus (HVC), which project to the basal ganglia (Area X), fire both when a bird is singing and when it is listening to its own song. Since such audio-vocal mirror neurons may play an important role in integrating auditory and vocal-motor information, we examined whether Area X of Bengalese finches also have audio-vocal mirror neurons. The result showed that medium spiny neurons (MSNs) and internal Globus Pallidus (GPi) neurons exhibited properties of audio-vocal mirror neurons. This suggests that the process to integrate auditory and vocal-motor information take place in Area X. |
