Development of Brain Machine Interface using EEG when recalling visual images

Abstract(in English) To assist the communication of motor-impaired, brain-machine interface (BMI) has been developed in recent years. In this study, we focused on visual recall and silent name recall in the brain, and the brain electrical activities depending on the recalled objects were measured for an interface. We used arrow symbols and Japanese characters (Kanji) those express 4 directions as the recall target. The active areas of electroencephalogram (EEG) were analyzed using cortical dipole imaging. We attempted to discriminate the EEG signals using deep learning technique based on the multilayer perceptron. The results showed that there was a tendency for activities in Broca’s area during recalling. It was suggested that visual recall is useful as BMI.
