Research Ethics Education with Jigsaw Method in a HyFlex Class

Abstract(in English) The aim of this study is to clarify feasibility and educational effect of research ethics education with the jigsaw method in a hybrid-flexible class. The class in this study consists of 21 students. Five of them are international students, attending online class and the rest are Japanese students, attending in-person class. To promote exchanges and stimulate discussions between international students and Japanese students, each jigsaw group is organized to include an international student and a few Japanese students. Students discuss responsible conduct of research each other with chat and video conferencing, through expert activities and jigsaw activities, and cooperatively write down the outcome to a worksheet assigned to each group. It was clarified that research ethics education with the jigsaw method in HyFlex class is able to effectively promote exchange and stimulate discussions between students attending online class and students attending in-person class and provide an opportunity to think and learn about academic integrity through exchanges and discussions.
