Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In a digital coherent optical communication system, it is necessary to design a forward error correction (FEC) and modulation format according to the transmission distance, data rate, and power consumption requirement. Since binary codes are applied to multilevel modulation, the bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM), which can apply one FEC code to various modulation formats, and multilevel coding, which can reduce the decoding complexity without depending on the FEC code, are used. As a new binary code, we proposed channel-polarized multilevel coding (CP-MLC), which convert the original channel into multiple channels with non-uniform capacities by channel polarization, and only applies soft-decision FEC (SD-FEC) to the unreliable channel. By combining the proposed CP-MLC apply to the FEC code of BICM, it is possible to reduce the decoding complexity without depending on the modulation format, and the code, which is an advantage of MLC. Since the proposed CP-MLC is a binary code, it can also be applied to probabilistically-shaped quadrature amplitude modulation (PS-QAM) that improves noise tolerance by using probabilistic constellation shaping. We show that it is possible to reduce the decoding complexity in QAM and PS-QAM by numerical simulation.
