Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In vehicle-to-network (V2N) communications in the fifth-generation mobile communication system (5G), the use of millimeter wave bands, which have a wide bandwidth that enables high-capacity communications, is being considered. Because of the large propagation loss in the millimeter wave bands, the application of beamforming technology at the vehicle side is considered to improve the communication reliability. However, the use of planar array antennas has a problem that the beamform is distorted when it is oriented in the two axes of the array plane, resulting in a reduction of gain and degradation of the receive signal-to-noise ratio. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a beam tracking method using a spherical array antenna to reduce the gain reduction even in near-horizontal direction by selecting appropriate excitation elements of the array antenna. Numerical results show that the proposed method with spherical array antenna improves the performance by about 37 dB at the 50% point of the cumulative distribution of the average received power compared to that with a planar array antenna.
