| Abstract(in English) | The notion of the age of information (AoI) has become recognized as the primary performance metric of real-time monitoring systems in recent years. The AoI quantifies the freshness of the information being monitored and it is essentially different from the conventional delay metric in that it captures how the system performance is affected by the sampling process of the information source (as well as by the system delay). In this talk, the notion of the AoI is first introduced with emphasis on its original motivation and several quantities relevant to the AoI are explained. Next, the theoretical framework of the AoI analysis is explained and some simple examples are presented with their implications. Finally, several recent works of the author are introduced, which focus on the applications of the notion of the AoI to various information and communication systems. |
