Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In hemodialysis therapy, a special vessel called arteriovenous fistula (AVF), which is surgically created by anastomosing arteries and veins, is widely used for realizing extracorporeal circulation. Because the AVF often becomes stenotic, a shunt echocardiography based on an ultrasound tomography device is usually performed to prevent the AVF stenosis from causing a serious situation. However, this echocardiography requires a special skilled operation due to application of a jelly to the skin of patient’s entire arm. For the reasons, in our previous work, we developed a system to quantify the AVF condition and visualize hemodynamics. Based on the system, this study further developed a non-contact and simple device to measure blood flow velocity in the AVF by applying an optical technology. Then, we carried out an experiment with one patient to estimate the AVF blood flow velocity to evaluate the performance of the developed device.
