Abstract(in English) | Analog video transmission with low latency has been the mainstream video transmission method for racing drones for a long time. However, analog video transmission has the problem that electromagnetic noise directly affects image quality. On the other hand, digital IP video transmission offers high image quality but increases latency due to frame buffering and encoding processes, and is not used for racing drones. In this study, we designed and implemented on FPGA an IP video transmitter for racing drones that is optimized for latency from camera capture to IP image transmission. The total delay between the camera and the display of an existing digital video transmission system for drones was measured and compared with the proposed method. The latency breakdown measured using the proposed method showed that the latency of the IP video transmitter could be reduced to less than 1 ms. |
