Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | It has been shown that when pairs of word knowledge are stored in association, interference between the knowledge occurs during retrieval of those words. Based on this finding, the present study experimentally examined the effects of interference between knowledge and new and old items of presented stimuli on pupil diameter during recollection of memorized words. The experiment was conducted in a 2 (number of fans: high vs. low) x 2 (old vs. new items: learned vs. unlearned) within-subject design using a fan task (Anderson, 1974) in which the magnitude of interference could be manipulated. The results of the experiment revealed that each of the factors of interference and old and new items affected the pupil dilation. The findings of this study revealed that interference affects the pupil in the recognition task with the fan task and is not so much affected across knowledge in the items. In the future, we plan to further examine whether it is possible to distinguish between the two factors affecting the pupil on a time axis. |
