Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | This study examined implicit gender prejudices we have against humans in the same way as we have against virtual agents through a web experiment with 61 participants in Japan. Specifically, we exposed the subjects' self-worth to threats by providing negative feedbacks on a logical thinking test. Then we measured their quantitative potential gender biases toward a male and female virtual agents. The results showed a general gender biases against the male agent that is not related to sexual roles, and this tendency was more pronounced among the female participants. On the other hand, stereotypical gender biases based on sexual roles appeared for the female agent, and the tendency was more pronounced for the male participants. These results suggest that the participants unconsciously showed gender biases toward the virtual agents, indicating the need to pay more attention to the gender of the agents in applications where they might give negative feedbacks such as education and interview practices. |
