Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In Virtual Private Network (VPN) services, which provide secure connections between remote locations, we study a method to control traffic flowing into a VPNs shared relay network(NW) that connect VPN users' locations to reduce the cost of this NW. In this study, we focus on the traffic that is discarded due to tight bandwidth or forwarding performance at the Provider Edge (PE) that accommodates each VPN site, and reduce the inflow of this discarded traffic to the relay NWs. Authors have proposed a method of monitoring an amount of traffic between VPN locations flowing into the relay NW and flowing out to the VPN site for limiting the amount of flowing into the relay NW. If the difference between the amount of traffic flowing into the relay NW and flowing out to the VPN site exceeds a certain amount, this method determines that traffic to be discarded is occurring and limits the amount of traffic flowing into the relay NW. In this method, the traffic monitoring and determination of traffic discording functions are integrated and deployed in the network controller, which increases the load on the NW controller in the case of a large-scale VPN with a large number of PEs. Therefore, this paper proposes an improved method in which the traffic flow monitoring function is deployed in a distributed manner at each PE. We also report the results of a quantitative evaluation of the effectiveness of this proposed method.
