Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | The purpose of this study was to examine how the predicted attractiveness of a face changes when the mouth information of the face is hidden by a mask and when the eye information of the face is hidden by sunglasses, compared to the original attractiveness of the face. In the experiment, we created images of the original faces of four male and four female participants (eight participants in total), and images of the original faces with the mouths hidden by masks and the eyes hidden by sunglasses, and presented them to the participants as stimuli. The participants were asked to answer the question about the attractiveness of the face using a single-item 5-point test. 2 way ANOVA was conducted on the obtained data (the first factor was the gender of the model (male/female); the second factor was the condition (mask condition, sunglasses condition, original condition)). The results of the analysis showed that the estimated attractiveness was higher in the mask condition than in the sunglasses and original conditions only for male models. This result indicated that only for male models, facial attractiveness was rated higher in the masked condition than in the unmasked and sunglasses conditions. |
