Design and implementation of unmanned sanitization system with automatic traveling robots with minimized cost

Abstract(in English) The demand for sanitization of indoor environments has increased since the outbreak of new coronavirus infections in 2019. From the perspective of infection prevention, sanitization needs to be carried out by a small number of people, and unmanned autonomous sanitization robots are attracting attention. In this paper, we develop a system in which an autonomous robot is equipped with a device that performs sanitization by spraying a sanitizing solution, and travels along an optimal route with the minimum sanitization cost, so that the robot can sanitize a specified area unattended. First, we formulate a problem of minimizing sanitization costs and meeting sanitization requirements. We then propose an optimization algorithm to solve this problem. By simulating a simple map, we show that the sanitization cost of our proposed algorithm is smaller than that of the conventional routing problem, i.e., the sanitization can be completed in the shortest distance. Furthermore, we implement the proposed system and demonstrate the movement of the determined sanitization path.
