Implementation of Micropayment System using IOTA and MQTT Protocol

Abstract(in English) As the number of IoT devices increases, they produce a huge amount of IoT sensing data. Hence, there is a demand for constructing a system that efficiently shares the data. As a solution, IoT sensing data, which is normally in a small size form and collected by low-resource IoT devices, would be traded for small electronic payments (i.e., micropayments). Since these transactions involve small amounts of IoT data and small amounts of money, they are expected to be fast, high-frequency transactions in large quantities. Micropayments can be realized by using distributed ledger technology and cryptocurrencies. The previous works show among distributed ledger technology, IOTA is suitable for the demanding micropayments in the IoT environment. In addition, the proposed IOTA-based micropayment system for P2P communication with TCP. This system cannot execute simultaneous payments when the number of participants is more than two. We propose a new micropayment system that solves the problem in this work. Our system also leverages IOTA for payments and ledger; however, it uses the MQTT protocol to enable interaction between multiple partners.
