Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In a walking support system for the visually impaired, if the system can estimate which way the next step will be taken, it can improve the safety and security of the walking support. We name it the next step estimation. The next step estimation is a prediction of the future in a shorter time range than the estimation of the direction of travel on walking, which is assumed in conventional research. In this paper, we describe our approach to realize the next step estimation using only the sensors on a smartphone used for Dead Reckoning. When a person walks with a smartphone, and then suddenly turns around to avoid an obstacle and takes the next step, some pattern is expected to exist in the output of the IMU sensor. To solve this problem, we prepare a sufficient amount of pairs of sensor outputs and position directions of the next step and train them as time-series data.
