Context free grammar with tree structure analysis for online handwritten mathematical expression recognition

Abstract(in English) In mathematics exams, descriptive questions are effective for measuring the comprehension of examinees, but marking handwritten answers are costly and time-consuming. Therefore, it is anticipated to automate marking them. Their recognition and clustering by machine learning must be established. In this paper, we propose tree structure analysis of a given mathematical expression using Context-Free Grammar based on online mathematical expression recognition by BLSTM and CTC. In an evaluation experiment, it was confirmed that the recognition rate was improved by 5.47 points compared with the conventional method using the tree structure of a mathematical expression.
