Passive optical device of plastic fiber manufactured by machining

Abstract(in English) With the global trend toward high-definition video content, Japan has begun "new 4K/8K satellite broadcasting. However, with the current mainstream distribution method using coaxial cables, there are concerns about interference with wireless systems in the same band due to leakage of intermediate frequencies when receiving radio waves. In order to solve this problem, an optical distribution method using plastic optical fiber (POF) has been proposed, but there are still many technical issues to be solved. In this study, we devised two branching structures and fabricated them in order to fabricate an optical distributor, which is necessary to realize an optical distribution system using POF. We have also measured optical properties of the fabricated branching structures.
