Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) DC current switching has been getting important as DC grid systems and electrical vehicles have been more popular. As well-known, DC switching is more difficult than AC switching due to no zero point of load current. So, a magnetic blow-out is generally used to extinguish arc discharge. In that case, arc duration becomes maximum at a lower current than the rated one. It is called Critical load current. In this paper, the effect of load inductance on arc characteristics including the critical load current is examined for W and Ag contacts at three opening speeds. As a result, it can be made clear that the maximum arc duration at small current becomes longer than that of resistive load, especially for inductive load condition of time constant 2 ms, while the effect of load inductance is not large for 100V, 30A circuit condition in case of no magnetic blow-out.
