Research on Degradation Process by Sliding Contact Energization of Gold-plated Slip-ring

Abstract(in English) An electric sliding contact mechanism is a means of transmitting power and signals between stationary and moving objects, and is used in various appliances such as chip mounters, ME devices and others. This sliding mechanism uses a slip ring and brush, but friction causes material wear and poor contact. Therefore, the use of lubricating oil in the slip ring system is aimed at reducing friction and wear, thereby extending the service life and improving reliability. However, there are still many unknowns about the degradation process of lubricant, which is a major factor in determining the life of the system. In order to clarify the degradation process of lubricating oil, we have measured and observed the contact voltage drop between the slip ring and the brush, and the change of the surface condition with time using Au-plated slip rings and Ag-Pd brushes during sliding. In this research, the contact voltage drop during operation was measured, and the slip ring surface after the test was analyzed by elemental analysis and shape analysis using a laser microscope. In addition, the degradation process of the lubricant was investigated by comparing with the previous results.
