Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) To aim at low-cost OFDM wireless receivers with low-power, the report investigates a new analog-to-digital converter (ADC) scheme based on real zero (RZ) techniques. This scheme exploits the crossing time called RZ between reference and bandpass signals in order to recover the baseband signals from the received bandpass signals, which is referred to as the RZ time-to-digital converter (TDC). Since RZ TDC mainly uses one comparator for detecting RZs, it can be classified as one-bit ADC like Delta-Sigma ADC. Considering this similarity, the report compares the required frequency of the sampling clock of Delta-Sigma ADC with that of the clock to measure RZs by a counter of RZ TDC for an OFDM receiver. Computer simulations show that the mean squared error (MSE) performance of both the schemes improves with an increase in the above frequencies. It is also demonstrated that RZ TDC is superior to Delta-Sigma ADC in terms of both the MSE and bit error rate (BER). Furthermore, this report also proposes a new structure of the counter along with a delay circuit array, which does not require very high frequency clock for RZ TDC when it is applied to radio frequency (RF) signals. Therefore, it can reduce power consumption caused by such a clock frequency. Since this application can also remove ADCs and the demodulator, it can reduce the number of analog circuits in wireless OFDM receivers
