Abstract(in English) | Since orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) has been adopted in many wireless communications, it is expected to be employed in future millimeter wave wireless systems. However, OFDM has a serious problem of high peak-to-average~power ratio (PAPR) due to multiplexing of many subcarrier signals. In order to minimize the PAPR, this report focuses on the constant-amplitude OFDM (CA-OFDM) method, which decomposes an OFDM signal into two constant-amplitude signals, and then applies CA-OFDM to millimeter wave communications. In the millimeter wave wireless systems, CMOS PLL synthesizers generate the phase noise (PN), which seriously degrades transmission performances. To alleviate the degradation due to PN, the two constant-amplitude signals are located adjacent to each other and then transmitted so that the difference in PN between them can be minimized. On the receiver side, frequency-domain equalization (FDE) under the minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion is employed to reduce inter-symbol interference (ISI) caused by delayed propagation paths. In addition, an iterative process performs decision-directed phase noise compensation (DD-PNC) to estimate and compensate for PN. Computer simulations under multipath channels with PN demonstrate that the proposed scheme can improve the average packet error rate (PER) performance drastically. |
