Abstract(in English) | Local 5G is expected as a new wireless communication technology to accommodate a large number of IoT devices. In recent years software base stations have emerged with the advancement of NFV/SDN and are expected to be used in local 5G. Software base stations enable low-cost and flexible operation compared to conventional dedicated base stations implemented with dedicated hardware. On the other hand, there is an issue that a method for evaluating their performance in a Local 5G environment has not yet been established. In addition when congestion occurs, such as when a large number of UEs send signaling messages at the same time to a mobile core network, it is difficult to operate delay-sensitive applications stably. In this paper, we first built an end-to-end Local 5G mMTC system with a software base station and real UEs and propose a method to evaluate the performance of 5G mobile core network in mMTC scenario. In addition we evaluated the performance of the software base station with our proposed method in this Local 5G environment and actually identified the bottleneck of the mobile core network. We also applied an implementation improving the identified bottleneck and show that it can actually improve the performance of the mobile core in our Local 5G environment. Specifically we identified that AMF becomes a bottleneck when congestion occurs in mobile core network and by scaling out the processing in AMF among CPU cores, we were able to reduce the average response time by 47% at most under congestion. |
