Abstract(in English) | Public blockchains, the lower layers of cryptocurrencies, security tokens, and Non-Fungible Token (NFT), are consuming more electricity due to increasing proof-of-work (PoW) workloads. Therefore, there is concern that the adoption of public blockchain-based products and services may not be aligned with enterprise green transformation efforts. In this paper, we summarize the statistics on which this is based and outline the issues inherent in mining, which is the main source of power consumption in public blockchains, and how to address them. We also consider measures to reduce the environmental impact from the perspective of the public blockchain itself, miners, and users. |
