Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In recent years, there are more than 300,000 visually impaired people living in Japan, including those with low vision. To construct a barrier-free social environment in which they can walk safely is a very important issue. The possession rate of smartphones for the visually impaired is increasing year by year, and it is becoming possible to support walking outdoors by using the GPS and voice function built into the smartphone. However, it was difficult to estimate position accurately in station premises and underground malls by GPS due to radio interference. So far, we are currently developing an indoor walking support system for the visually impaired using a geomagnetic map limited to the area nearby the braille blocks. To achieve real-time navigation, we developed a system that applied Dynamic Time Warping to an estimation of the self-position by using user steps. And then, we also evaluated whether it could be utilized as a navigation system. As a result, we confirmed that our system could perform navigation within an error of 1.2 m. Furthermore, we showed that a high-definition geomagnetic map could be easily created from the geomagnetism measured while walking with a stride that matches the dimensions of a braille block sheet.
