Abstract(in English) | Functions and roles of translation change over time and demands of a given field. In recent years, the translation industry took evolutionary advancement through AI-technology, responding to the demands from the fields of intelligence agencies, science and technologies, and business who seek the effectiveness to remove language barriers. The ubiquity of automatic translators and interpreters are now appreciated by anybody including tourists and language learners. This paper takes up another, underrepresented, aspect of translation occurring in multilingual societies. Focusing on one area of the Mindanao Region in the Philippines, it reports translation as a necessary instrument and means to teach children in school and discusses possible disadvantages that children face in developing their conceptual thinking abilities. It claims that such situation exists worldwide and conjectures possible solution which automatic translation technologies may bring in the near future. |
