Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Kimura et al, (2009, 2012) reported that gender stereo-types (GS) on food by using a semantic priming task. In this study, we examined the effect of visual holistic information processing on GS on food using their paradigm. We used images of feminine and masculine-evaluated food. In Experiment 1, we primed the participants with upright or inverted images, immediately after the priming, we presented them with forenames as target stimuli and let them decide whether the target was feminine or masculine. The results showed that difference GS whereas they took longer time for gender judgement on target for inverted images than that for upright images. This phenomenon suggests that the visual holistic information processing relates the name judgments. In Experiment 2, we conducted almost the same experiment as Experiment 1 whereas targets were Japanese or Western food names. As the result, we found that participants took longer time for food style judgment on target for inverted images than that for upright images under the condition where prime and target were congruent. As conclusion, we find that the effect of visual holistic information is different between gender and food style judgement.
