Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Acoustic microscopy has been attracting attention for the morphological observation of microstructures inside the skin layers. In this study, we aimed to improve the image quality of human skin images by applying synthetic aperture focusing technology (SAFT) to a mechanical scanning acoustic microscope system using a 75 MHz transducer. We tested the performance of the SAFT method using RF echo data of a 30 ?m diameter tungsten wire at different depths and the human cheek skin. The results showed that the wire object was imaged sharper by up to 50.9% by applying SAFT. In addition, the human skin images processed with SAFT showed an improved contrast of the sebaceous gland structures in the out-of-focus region, indicating that applying SAFT is effective in improving the imaging quality of the mechanical scanning acoustic microscope.
