Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In the interruption of DC high voltage circuits, it is desirable to extinguish the arc at the opening of the contacts in as short a time as possible. In this study, the duration of the opening arc was shortened by blowing air across the electrical contact pair. The position of the opening arc in the gap between the electrical contacts and the velocity of the flow were analyzed numerically. As a result, when air is blown into the contact gap from the side, the time required for the lower edge of the opening arc to reach 1 mm downwind from the center of the contact becomes shorter as the flow rate of the air blowing increases, but the range of the time reduction becomes smaller. The velocity at the center of the arc when the lower end of the arc was 1 mm downwind from the center of the contact increased with the flow rate. Comparing the velocities at the center of the contact point and at 1 mm downwind from the center of the contact point for each flow rate, the velocity at the center of the contact point was larger for all flow rates.
