Study on a Correlation Controlling Method to Realize Correlation-used Calculations Sequentially in Stochastic Computing

Abstract(in English) Stochastic Computing (SC) is an approximation calculation method using Stochastic Number (SN), which represents the existence probability of 1 in a bit string. Generally, when performing SC operations, if there is a correlation between SNs, a large error will occur. However, since a large circuit area is required to generate independent SNs, a method using correlated SNs has been proposed in recent years. Although operations using such correlated SNs are attracting attention, the following two problems exist. The first is that the correlation between output SNs changes in some operations. As a result, if the correlated operations are performed continuously, the SN correlation is affected, which in turn affects the calculation accuracy. The second problem is that some operations such as multiplication cannot be realized by correlated operations, so when performing complicated operations, it is necessary to use them together with uncorrelated operations. In this paper, in order to solve the above problems, we first propose a method of maintaining the correlation between output SNs by scaling addition by sharing the selection signal of the multiplexer. Next, by adding a method to reduce the correlation (RRRD) and a method to strengthen the correlation (SYNC) between the image processing operations, to control the correlation between SNs, and evaluate the effect.
