Study of the Amount of Mutual Information of Secure Polarization Multiplexed M-QAM Signal with Symbol Placement Retention Masking Method

Abstract(in English) In recent years, optical communication transceivers have been required to have high confidentiality for data. A shared key cryptosystem at the physical layer has been introduced in digital signal processing. We proposed a symbol arrangement retention masking M-QAM method that changes regularly according to the encryption key bit while retaining the symbol arrangement containing data. In this time, we applied the symbol arrangement retention masking method to the polarization multiplex M-QAM signal. We evaluated the bit error rate (BER) characteristics by hard decision using threshold processing. In addition, assuming a case where an eavesdropper attempts soft-judgment decryption using likelihood, the amount of information is evaluated by mutual information (GMI: Generalized Mutual Information) as an evaluation index of security strength.
